News to Me: Adventures of an Accidental Journalist is a memoir, a sort of coming-of-age story, and a look at newsrooms back in the days of fedoras and typewriters, and the experiences of a woman in a man's world. Parts of it are pretty funny--hopefully, the parts I intended.
I have also written a chapter for
Real Feature Writing, by Abraham Aamidor; a Duluth architectural history, Boomtown Landmarks; and contributed a chapter to
Robert Bly In This World.
In some ways, News to Me is a companion book to They Took My Father: Finnish Americans in Stalin's Russia, written with Mayme Sevander and published in 2004, a memoir of American Finns who immigrated to Soviet Russia in 1934 to help build a Workers' Paradise, only to be executed two years later in Stalin's purges.
